I'm no Jane and I never saw Tarzan but we were there in the trees, living the adventure!

This past Saturday was no normal Saturday. The weather was perfect, the WILD was calling... the challenge was beckoning. This would be THE day! The day I was going conquer my fears and take something off my bucket list: I was ready to take a walk on the WILD side, at the Tree to Tree Adventures at the Tallahassee Museum.

Our family was visiting and we wanted an adventure, and extraordinary adventure, a test of mental and physical strength and endurance and there it was... the call of the WILD... the call from the trees, Tallahassee's best kept secret adventure. This as our perfect opportunity! We began the day with a good breakfast and headed out, making it to the Museum  just in time before the rush hour and all the younger fans of the wild arrived.

At the front desk we discussed among us if we wanted the "short" ride or the "long" ride. The short ride was the Canopy Crossing which takes between 45 to 90 minutes. The long ride was the Soaring Cypress, which can take from 2 to 3 hours, depending on how nimble, brave, and expert that you think you may be after your brief "how-to" session. The course involves walking on a rope like a gymnast, stepping into several swings with holes that make you imagine  your life flashing by very slowly.  Because we were together, because of our pride and our spirit of competition... we choose the long line, and we began our adventure like a band of explorers in a new world!

After a quick course from one of the seasoned guides, teaching us  security features and do's and don'ts while above the trees, we felt confident, secure and hopeful to make it to the end.... and to the ground.. safely...soon.  .As we began, glancing at each other, questioning if we would remember all these instructions once set loose into the WILD.  Someone did say "practice makes perfect," and we would certainly get some practice in along the way.

Twenty feet from the ground was the first leg of the course. The long course was divided into 3 stages, each harder and harder, each passing over swamp, the badlands, the lions and tigers and bears... far above the creatures following us from below, waiting on their next meal! The obstacles began to get more and more challenging once we advanced, and at each moment of pause, my nerves and, racing heartbeat directed my rolling eyes to look for some stairs to get down!  (Sorry, this is not an option. Once you are up there, you have to finish as well!)

After several personal talks with me, myself, and I, the moments of proving my mental logic could overcome my emotional fears, I began, step by arduous step, stealthily, skillfully crossing on a rope over the wetlands and cypress knees of Lake Bradford. I conquered my fears one step at a time, breath by breath.  Now, confidently, I an writing this blog as if I was Wonder Woman, but that is exactly how I felt when I finished this adventure (almost 3 hours later).

Although I walked away with a couple of bruises, somehow ate sand and avoided a heart attack once or twice, this was the most amazing experience ever and I would totally recommend it. Nothing better than taking something off your bucket list. Here is a little video of our fun trip to the Tree to Tree Adventures at the Tallahassee Museum. Don't mind my expressions, I lived to do it all again. Enjoy!
